How to Use Memojis for Your iPhone Contacts

On iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices, you can send customizable Memoji stickers in iMessages and replace your contact image with your own Memoji.

But did you know you can also create and set Memojis for all your other contacts on your iPhone, regardless of whether your contacts use Apple devices? In this short guide, we'll show you exactly how to do that.

Step 1: Open the Contact Info

Creating a Memoji for another contact is similar to creating a Memoji for yourself, with only a few minor differences. To begin customizing a Memoji for one of your contacts, you’ll first need to open that specific contact’s info.

There are two ways to do this. The first way is to open the Contacts app on your iOS device to search and select the contact whose image you’ll be changing.

For the second method, open a Messages conversation with the contact and tap their photo at the top of the screen. Then select Info on the right. After their contact slide pops up, select Info on the right once again.

Step 2: Create a New Memoji for a Contact

Once you’ve found that contact’s info using either of the methods above, you can get started customizing their very own Memoji.

To do this, tap Edit in the upper-right corner of the contact’s info page. Then, select either Add Photo or Edit below the contact’s current image.

You’ll find a variety of contact image choices, from regular emojis to photos from your Camera or Photo Library.

But since we're interested in creating a new Memoji, select the plus (+) bubble under the Memoji heading. Here, you can create a new Memoji to resemble (or not resemble) the contact you have chosen.

After customizing everything from their hairstyle to earrings, tap Done in the upper-right corner.

Step 3: Select a Background and Pose for Your Memoji

In the next steps, you can choose a pose for your new Memoji and then move and scale it. Finally, select the Choose button and pick a pastel background color.

Making Memojis for Your Contacts

There you have it—customized Memojis for your contacts! Unfortunately, this does take some time and patience to create characters for each contact.

So, unless you really want to take the time to create Memojis for all your contacts, maybe settle for making them only for your favorite contacts. Or, just convince all your friends and family to purchase iPhones so they can create and use their own Memojis for their contact photos so you don't have to.
