Google's Pixel 6 series has received lots of positive reviews. But despite all the accolades, the phones are not without disappointments. One of the issues is the series' slow fingerprint scanner which, according to Google, is not unusual.
Are you experiencing slow response while using your Pixel 6 fingerprint scanner? Here's why that is so.
Why Your Pixel 6 Fingerprint Scanner Is Slow
There are two different ways of unlocking your Pixel 6. You might use a fingerprint scanner or PIN, although the former is usually more convenient. However, the fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 6 has also been a source of criticism for Google online due to its slower-than-expected response.
A concerned user took it on Twitter, seeking to get some answers from the phone maker. The slow fingerprint response time on the Pixel 6 series is not without reason, according to Google. In reply to the affected user, Google attributed the slower response to the "enhanced security algorithms" baked inside the sensor.
"In some instances, these added protections can take longer to verify or require more direct contact with the sensor," the company added.
While that may be a valid reason, the issue is not widespread, so the reasoning may not be accurate. If this issue is truly related to the built-in security measures, many users would have been victims of the same fate.
Besides, you might experience a slow response from your fingerprint scanner due to a variety of reasons. One, it may be due to a dirty display with smudges that might obscure the scanner. Also, it might be due to poor scanning while setting up your fingerprint, among other things.
Google also points out a support page on troubleshooting Pixel 6 fingerprint issues, but that doesn't help address the issue.

Tips to Ensure Your Fingerprint Scanner Is Working Perfectly
Fingerprint scanners are convenient, but they may be a pain in the neck if you don't observe a couple of things.
One, ensure that your phone's display is clean from dirt and smudges. Secondly, make sure you press and hold the scanner firmly. A tap might also be sufficient, but you should do it with precision. Google also says your Pixel 6 fingerprint scanner might fail if you have "excessively dry fingers."
And since the Pixel 6 series uses an optical fingerprint scanner, it might not work if you try to unlock your device in bright outdoor sunlight. While these tips won't help fix the issue if it's a software problem, it might help if the fault is on your end.
