How Share Passwords Between Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox

Switching browsers is a common behavior we do either temporarily when we’re testing out something or permanently when we’re frustrated with the previous one. Either way, there’s always a need for the flexibility to access passwords or any other data saved in the previous browser.

In a situation where you want to share passwords between Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox, there’re browser in-built import and export features that can be used.

Note: Importing passwords to a browser will replace any existing passwords of the same website

How to Transfer Passwords between Chrome, Edge, and Firefox

We have listed methods on how to transfer passwords between these browsers below. Make sure that you are doing this on a personal computer to avoid security breaches.

From Google Chrome to Microsoft Edge:

Since Microsoft Edge is now Chromium-based, it has an inbuilt feature for transferring data from Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer which makes it easy to share passwords.

1. Open Microsoft Edge and access its menu by clicking on the three horizontal dots at the top right corner
2. Navigate to Settings
3. From Your Profile section, navigate to Import browser data
4. Select Google Chrome in the Import from section
5. If your Google Chrome has multiple profiles, select the profile from which you want to import the passwords in the Profile field
6. Uncheck all the other fields and only leave Saved Passwords if you only want to import passwords only and then click on the Import Button. If you ever need to import any
7. A success message will be displayed after the import.

If you want to access your passwords from other Microsoft devices, you can turn on synchronization will the following steps:

1. Navigate to Your Profile Section in settings and then click Sign in
2. Turn on Sync when prompted

From Google Chrome to Firefox:

1. Open Firefox
2. Click on the hamburger icon at the top right corner and navigate to Logins and Passwords
3. Click on the three horizontal dots at the top right corner
4. Select Import from Another Browser
5. Select Chrome and click Next
6. Under Items to Import, unselect all items except Logins and Passwords
7. Click on Next to start the import

From Microsoft Edge to Google Chrome:

1. Open Microsoft Edge
2. Visit edge://settings/passwords
3. Click on the three horizontal dots on the left of the Saved Passwords label and click Export Passwords
4. Confirm the export and enter your Windows password and finally save the passwords file as “edge passwords” in the desired location
5. Open the Google Chrome Experiments page by visiting chrome://flags/
6. Enter “password import” in the search bar at the top of the page
7. Click on the drop-down menu on the right of the Password import section and select Enabled
8. A dialog will be displayed asking to relaunch Google Chrome in order to apply the settings.
   Click on Relaunch
   
9. Visit chrome://settings/passwords 
10. Navigate to the Saved Passwords section and click on the three vertical dots on the right of the label
11. Click Import, navigate to the location of the edge passwords file we saved, and click Open

From Microsoft Edge to Firefox:

1. Open Firefox
2. Click on the menu icon at the top right corner and open Logins and Passwords
3. Click on the three horizontal dots at the top right corner and select Import from Another Browser
4. Select Microsoft Edge and click Next
5. Only select Saved Logins and Passwords for Items to import and click Next

From Firefox to Microsoft Edge:

1. Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to edge://settings/profiles
2. Click on Import browser data
3. under Import from, Select Mozilla Firefox – default release and only select Saved Passwords
4. Click Import complete the transfer

From Firefox to Google Chrome:

1. Open Firefox and navigate to Logins and Passwords from the menu at the top right corner
2. Click on the three horizontal dots at the top right corner and click Export Logins
3. Confirm the export by clicking on the Export button
4. Enter your Windows password when prompted and save the passwords file in the desired location as “firefox passwords”
5. Open the Google Chrome Experiments page by visiting chrome://flags/
6. Enter “password import” in the search bar at the top of the page
7. Click on the drop-down menu on the right of the Password import section and select Enabled
8. A dialog will be displayed asking to relaunch Google Chrome in order to apply the settings.
   Click on Relaunch
   
9. Visit chrome://settings/passwords 
10. Navigate to the Saved Passwords section and click on the three vertical dots on the right of the label
11. Click Import and navigate to the firefox passwords file you saved and open it
