How to Setup a VPN Connection on Windows 10.

In a previous article I mentioned the way to add a VPN Client connection on Windows 8, 7 or Vista. In this article I'll show to you the way to setup a VPN connection to your workplace on Windows 10.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection, gives you the ability to access, in a secure way, your business computer and network resources from distance.

This tutorial contains detailed instructions, on how to setup a VPN client connection on Windows 10, in order to connect to your business workplace.

How to Add a VPN connection to your Workplace in Windows 10.

1. From Settings How to Setup a VPN Connection on Windows 10. click Network and Internet, OR, right click at the Network icon on the taskbar and choose Open Network & Internet settings.

2. Click VPN on the left and then click + to Add a VPN connection.

3. At the next screen, fill out the following information and click Save:

a. VPN provider: Select Windows (built-in).

b. Connection name: Type a friendly name for the VPN connection. (e.g.. "VPN_OFFICE")

c. Server name or address: Type the public IP address or the name of the VPN server.

d. VPN Type: Use the drop down arrow to select the type of the VPN connection that your company uses. {e.g. "Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)"}.

e. Type of sign-in info: Use the drop down arrow and select the authentication type for the VPN connection. (e.g. "User name and password").

f. User Name: Type your VPN user name if needed.

g. Password: Type your VPN password if needed.

h. Check the "Remember my sign-in info" checkbox, if you want to save your sign-in credentials for the VPN connection and then click Save

4. Once you have created the VPN connection, you 're ready to connect to your workplace. To do that, select the new VPN connection and click Connect.

To Modify the VPN Connection.

If you want to modify the VPN connection properties:

1. Click Advanced options

2. Then click the Edit menu to update the VPN settings (server name, username, password, etc.) or specify the VPN proxy settings.

Optional VPN Connection settings.

1. If you don't want to connect to VPN, while connected on a metered network or while roaming, turn off the related switches.

2. If you want to be able to access the Internet, using your own local network, while you 're connected to VPN, then:

a. Under Related settings, choose Change adapter options.

b. Right click on the VPN connection and choose Properties.

c. At Networking tab, select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

e. Uncheck the "Use default gateway on remote network" and click OK three (3) times to apply changes and close all windows.
