In this guide, we explain how to easily fix the ESET Protect console error "Product is installed but is not running" in client Windows devices.
ESET PROTECT is a powerful security management platform, but sometimes you may encounter the issue where one or more devices show the alert "Product is installed, but not running" in the dashboard. This warning usually means that one of the following is happening on the device experiencing the problem:
- The ESET Management Agent is out of date, which is a common cause of the problem.
- The ESET Security Service is corrupted or not running because there is a conflict with another antivirus or security tool.
- ESET Real-time Protection is not active because it has been disabled by a malicious program.

How to Fix “Product is Installed but is Not Running” in ESET PROTECT.
The ESET Management Agent is a critical small software component located on endpoint devices (computers, servers) that communicates with the ESET PROTECT central server or the ESET PROTECT Cloud console to manage, monitor and control endpoint devices.
If the ESET Management Agent version is outdated on an endpoint device, the device loses communication with the ESET PROTECT server and the ESET Protect dashboard reports that "The product is installed but not running" on that device. To fix the issue, proceed and update ESET Management Agent.
1. Click the Outdated version button in the alert details.

2. In the 'ESET Security Products' section, click UPDATE ESET PRODUCTS.

3. In the next screen, select the ESET Management Agent and click OK.

4. In the next screen click UPDATE to confirm your decision.

5. Now, go to the Task Executions tab and wait until the Upgrade Management Agents task completes. When that happens, you are good to go. The error "Product is installed, but not running" should be gone.

Additional Troubleshooting Steps.
If, after updating the ESET Management Agent and restarting the device, you still receive the mentioned alert, do the following:
1. Check if any other antivirus is running on the endpoint device.
2. Open Services (services.msc) and check if the ESET service is running and the startup type is set to Automatic.
3. Uninstall & reinstall ESET Endpoint Antivirus.
