How to Link to a Specific Part of a Page

Nowadays, everybody shares and creates links for many different purposes and they are a part of our everyday lives. However, if you share a link that leads to a long document, it can be quite annoying for the users to locate the information that you want to convey. Therefore, it is always a good idea to create and use “Specific Links” which lead to a specific area of the page.

In this article, depending upon the site, we will teach you how to link to a specific part of the page. Make sure to follow the methods carefully in order to avoid conflict.

How to Link to a Specific Part of a Page?

After receiving numerous requests from multiple users, we decided to look into the matter and devised a separate guide for some of the most popular platforms to link to a specific part of the page. It is as follows:

For WordPress:

  1. Click on the plus icon and add a new “Block“.
  2. SelectHeading” as the block type and enter the heading text.
  3. Click on the “Advanced” dropdown and select the “HTML Anchor” option.How to Link to a Specific Part of a Page
  4. Type in the text by clicking which the page jump will be initiated.
    Note: Type without spaces, use “-” between the words need to be spaced.
  5. Now type in some text, add an image or a button by clicking which the page jump will be initiated.
  6. Highlight the Text, image or button and click on the “Link” button in the blocks toolbar.
  7. Enter “#(The HTML Anchor that you created in step 4)” and press “Enter” to create a link to a specific part of the page.How to Link to a Specific Part of a Page
  8. Now, whenever a user clicks on the link they will be guided to the heading that you selected in step 2.

For Other Sites:

Now assuming that you don’t have control over the site and the site hasn’t created any page jumps by themselves, there is still one way to direct the link towards a particular part of the page. Therefore, in this step, we will be linking towards a particular part of the page. For that:

  1. Suppose that you want to direct the link to a particular answer on a forum.
  2. Scroll down and highlight the answer.
  3. Right-click on the highlighted answer and selectInspect“.How to Link to a Specific Part of a Page
  4. Inspect will show the elements for the highlighted part.
  5. You will see a particular “<div” that is branching out and giving smaller “<div…” commands.How to Link to a Specific Part of a Page
  6. In that “<div“, the words “id=answer-(number)”” will be shown.
  7. Select all the words inside the commas after “id=“, Rightclick on them and select “Copy”.How to Link to a Specific Part of a Page
  8. Note down these words and enter them with a “#” at the end of the site’s address.
  9. For example,
    If the URL was:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1465381/catching-the-dreaded-blue-screen-of-death

    It becomes:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1465381/catching-the-dreaded-blue-screen-of-death#answer-1465388
  10. This URL can now be used to link to a particular part of the page.
