Is your computer crashing to a blue screen of death and you have XMP enabled in your motherboard?
Are you wondering if XMP is the cause of these blue screen of deaths?

So can enabling XMP cause blue screen of death? Enabling XMP can cause a blue screen of death because you are overclocking your system and this causes errors in the computers memory which can trigger a blue screen of death.
Below I will show you how you can safely enable XMP on your system and avoid these crashes.
What Is a XMP Profile?
XMP stands for extreme memory profile and is an Intel technology that allows you to overclock your systems memory speed and other settings within your system BIOS.
There are different xmp profiles you can select which are;
Profile 1 : this is the more stable profile as it enables the settings that were advertised with your motherboard
Profile 2 : this profile is considered a high performance profile and as such the settings are set much higher great to achieve greater system performance
How To Enable and Disable XMP
To enable or disable xmp on your computer enter your computer’s BIOS then under a-xmp menu in top left click the circle so it shows on and then select one or two. option 1 is the default profile and 2 is the High performance profile.
You can also click on the OC menu on the left-hand side then scroll down to DRAM setting click on a-xmp and select profile 1 or profile 2

How to disable XMP? To disable XMP enter your computers BIOS then click on the OC menu on the left-hand side then scroll down to DRAM setting click on a-xmp and select Disabled
Resolving XMP Blue Screen Of Death
To resolve xmp causing blue screen of death on your machine we are going to try two things
- BIOS update
- Change XMP Settings
BIOS Update
If xmp is causing your system to crash to a blue screen of death the first thing you need to do is update your BIOS to the latest version. to do this visit your manufacturers website and download the latest BIOS update and installed on your machine.
The latest BIOS update should include a fix that will prevent xmp from causing your system to crash.
Install this update then reboot your machine.
Change XMP Settings
The first thing we need to do disable xmp on your machine by going into the BIOS and disabling it, then restart your system, monitor if the blue screen of death happens again.
If it does not happen we know the xmp setting is causing the crashes.
If your system does crash you can try to enable profile 1 in XMP settings and again monitor if the blue screen of death disappears.
Other XMP Settings To Check
If you are still having crashes there are some other xmp settings we can manually set in the bios.
- RAM Settings : Check the RAM speed and frequency of the memory in your system a manually set the same frequency and speed under the xmp settings in the bios
- RAM Voltage : The maximum safe voltage for Ram should be set to 1.5 V
- RAM Location : Make sure your RAM is in the optimal slots on your motherboard, usually this is slot A2 and slot B2, you might need to check the motherboards manual for this information
