Add a Date Picker to Excel 64‑Bit: Step‑by‑Step Guide

In the 32-bit version of Excel, we can import an Active X control which is named Microsoft Date and Time Picker Control 6.0 (SP6) by going to Inserts > More Controls from the Developer tab to use the built-in Datepicker. But the 64-bit version of Excel doesn’t offer the Active X tool. You need to manually add an add-in to use the feature.

Step 1 – Enabling Developer Tab on the Ribbon

  • Check if the Developer tab is on the ribbon. If it is not on the ribbon (like the figure below), we need to enable the Developer tab manually.

  • Hover over the top of the ribbon and right-click. You will see a menu like this below.

  • Click on Customize the Ribbon. The Excel Options window will pop up.

  • Check the Developer option and click OK.
  • The Developer tab will be added to the ribbon.

Step 2 – Inserting the Datepicker Add-in

  • Go to the Developer tab and click on Add-ins.

  • The Office Add-ins window will open. Go to the STORE tab.

  • In the search bar, write “Datepicker”.
  • You will see an add-in named “Mini Calendar and Date picker”.
  • Click on Add next to the result.

  • You will see a Date Picker floating window like this on the worksheet.

Step 3 – Picking Up Date from Datepicker

  • To insert a date in a cell using the Datepicker, select that cell. We selected B6.

  • From the Datepicker window, click on the Date that you want to insert. We put 14th February 2023, so chose February 2023 and then selected 14.

  • There are some other options below that you may want to explore yourself. You can resize the Datepicker window by clicking the bottom left button.

  • To insert this datepicker into other sheets, go to the Developer tab and then click on Add-ins.
  • On the My Add-ins tab, select the Mini Calendar and Date Picker and click Add in the bottom right corner.

  • The new worksheet will also have a Datepicker.

Things to Remember

  • If your Excel version is 32-bit, you can use the Active-X library to insert MSCOMCT2.OCX to enable a Datepicker tool.
