Ubuntu is user-friendly and comes with lots of features for your entertainment and work needs. To support productivity and focus, Ubuntu has a Do Not Disturb feature that allows you to focus on the work at hand with minimal distractions.
Here's how you can enable the Do Not Disturb mode on your Ubuntu PC.
Why Use the Do Not Disturb Mode?
Imagine you are in an important meeting. You forgot to mute your speaker and then suddenly your PC starts to blip with notifications. This is where the Do Not Disturb mode comes in.
When you turn on the Do Not Disturb mode, you basically mute or disable all notification sounds and pop-ups from your screen, allowing you to focus on the task at hand or be fully present in that important meeting.
Studies show that focus and minimal distractions are good for productivity and getting work done.
Enabling the Do Not Disturb Mode on Ubuntu
The easiest way to enable the Do Not Disturb mode is from the notifications center, which is located at the top center of your screen. This is where your date and time are displayed by default.
Click on the notifications center, and you'll be presented with a drop-down notifications menu. The Do Not Disturb toggle button is located in the bottom left corner of the notifications center.
Toggle on the Do Not Disturb button to disable pop-up notifications. To allow notifications again, simply toggle off the Do Not Disturb button.
Alternatively, you can also access the Do Not Disturb feature in the settings area. Press the Super + A shortcut keys, and select Settings from the list of applications presented.
Within the settings menu, select Notifications and press the Do Not Disturb toggle button to turn on or off the Do Not Disturb mode.
Other DND Customizations in Ubuntu
For fine-grained control and customization of notifications, you can access the Do Not Disturb mode from the Notifications menu under settings.
For example, you can choose whether the notifications are displayed on your lock screen or not. For privacy or security reasons you might want to turn off lock screen notifications by toggling off the Lock Screen Notifications button.
To customize notifications for a specific application, you can select the application from within the notification area and customize it to your liking.
Improve Productivity With the Do Not Disturb Mode
In a digitally connected world, the Do Not Disturb Mode is a great utility that allows you to focus on the task at hand without app notifications. The Do Not Disturb feature not only allows you to focus but also empowers and elevates your workflows.
