Windows 10 Will Soon Receive Dark Mode Searching

Windows 10 has its own built-in dark mode, but there is a problem; every time you use the Start menu search, its white background persists even with dark mode enabled. Finally, Microsoft is preserving your eyeballs by implementing dark mode into the search window.

Making Windows 10 Dark Mode Even Better

Microsoft announced the update on the Windows Insider Blog. As of today, Windows Insiders using the Beta branch will receive an update with a few additions. One of them is darkening the Start menu search results when dark mode is enabled.

Windows 10 Will Soon Receive Dark Mode Searching

To see the change for yourself, you need to first enable the dark theme on your Windows 10 computer. After that, click the Start menu and type something to search for. If you have the update, the search results will display on an eye-saving dark background.

That's not all that's included in this update, however. It also stops the Windows Security app from hanging or crashing. If you've noticed that Windows Security has been unstable recently, keep your eyes out for when this update goes live.

Microsoft also fixes a nasty bug with this update. If you used a system restore point that was made before a Microsoft Edge update, there's a chance that Edge would refuse to boot afterward.

The patch also "fixe[s] an issue impacting Voice Typing reliability." This is pretty important, as Microsoft is updating Windows 10 with better dictation tools. We may see a future focus on voice recognition as Microsoft makes voice commands a larger part of Windows 10.

Shining a Light on the Enhanced Dark Mode

Fans of darker themes will dislike how Windows 10 currently displays the Start search menu. Fortunately, a future update will finally fix this annoying bug. You can wait for it to release on the Windows 10 main branch, or opt into the Windows Insider build if you want it now.

Dark modes are a godsend for people who sit in front of screens for long periods. These days, all the major browsers feature a way to apply a dark theme to any website, regardless of the colors the webpage uses.
