Windows 11 Insider build 22499 adds new way to share app windows to a Teams call

Microsoft has just released the Windows 11 preview build 22499 for Insiders in the Dev channel, and the main new feature is the ability to quickly share open app windows to a Microsoft Teams call. When hovering over open windows on the taskbar, Windows Insiders will now see a “Share this window” button at the bottom of the pop up to share the content from an open app to Teams meeting calls.

"When you are in a meeting call through Microsoft Teams, simply hover over the apps running on your taskbar and you will see a new button that allows you to share your window with your meeting attendees. When you are done sharing your content, hover over the window again and click Stop Sharing or choose another window and click Share this Window. If you’re presenting a full screen presentation in PowerPoint, simply move your mouse to the bottom and your taskbar will pop up for you to share or stop sharing the presentation without interruption to your attendees,” the Windows Insider team explained.

This new sharing experience will only roll out to a subset of Windows Insiders who have installed the Microsoft Teams app for work or school accounts (which is separate from the built-in Teams app for consumers on Windows 11). The Windows Insider team said today that other communications apps will also be able to support this new sharing feature from the Windows 11 taskbar, and it will be interesting to see if Zoom, Discord, or other apps could soon take advantage of it.

Today’s build 22499 also brings various bug fixes and improvements for Clipboard history, File Explorer, and the Settings app. Starting with this build, keyboard focus visuals in Task View and Alt + Tab are also easier to see.
