Windows 11 Insider build 22509 brings welcome changes to Start Menu, Taskbars, and Settings

Microsoft released today the Windows 11 Insider build 22509 for testers in the Dev channel, and the new bits bring some welcome changes to the Start Menu, Taskbars, Notifications, and the Settings app. Starting with this build, Insider can now configure the Start Menu to show more pins or more recommendations based on their preferences.

Users with multiple monitors will also be glad to know that the clock and date will now be displayed on the taskbars of additional monitors. This has been a popular request from Windows 11 users, though this change will only roll out to a subset of Dev Channel Insiders at first.

Todays build 22509 also changes how notifications work for apps that use them for calls, reminders, or alarms. Some insiders will now see 3 high-priority notifications as stacked, plus one normal priority notification at the same time.

Microsoft is also continuing to move more settings from the legacy Control Panel to the Windows 11 Settings app in this build, and advanced sharing settings will now appear on a new page under Advanced Network Settings. If you use Airplane mode regularly, the OS will now remember if you turn on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi while in airplane mode.

Weve just highlighted the most important updates, but you can find the full list of changes, bug fixes, and known issues in the Windows 11 build 22509 below:

As we're getting closer to the end of the year, the rhythm of new build releases should slow down, but today's release is an important step towards a more coherent Windows 11 experience. It's still early days for the new OS, but Microsoft is always listening to feedback from Insiders so make sure to share your thoughts with the team in the Feedback Hub.
