Microsoft has dipped its toe into developing for and creating mobile devices, with varying degrees of success. However, a single developer has managed to bring all of Windows 11 onto their Android 13 device... and it doesn't even run that badly.
Windows 11 on an Android 13 Device
As reported by Wccftech, a developer called Danny Lin (@kdrag0n on Twitter) managed to get Windows 11 running on a Pixel 6 device via a virtual machine. He posted some evidence on his Twitter feed that shows off what Windows 11 looks like on a mobile screen.
He goes on to say that using Windows 11 on a Pixel 6 "is actually really usable now." As you might expect, Windows 11's hardware acceleration features aren't working yet, but the current result looks promising.
The discovery is nice and all, but it has yet to answer the age-old tech question: can it run Doom? Fortunately, kdrag0n takes the time to answer it by playing the classic FPS on his phone.
It's worth noting that this discovery isn't an official Windows 11 feature. All of what you see above are due to the work of one tech-adept fan who managed to get everything running on their phone without Microsoft's official blessing.
Will Windows 11 on Mobile Phones Take Off?
Lin's feat is really impressive, and it does open up the door for Android users to use Windows 11 on mobile devices. However, using Windows 11 on the go may not require a virtual machine in the future.
As it turns out, Microsoft also seems interested in making Windows 11 mobile. Very recently, eagle-eyed Windows 11 users spotted several secret features Microsoft is working on, which included the return of "tablet mode."
Tablet mode is a Windows 10 feature that changes the operating system to work better on mobile devices. And if Microsoft is working away on bringing this to Windows 11, it can only mean that it intends to bring its new software to mobile devices too.
As such, it may not be long until using Windows 11 on the go evolves from a fan project to an officially-supported feature. We'll just have to keep our eyes on Microsoft and see how it'll develop Windows 11's tablet mode further.
Is a Mobile Windows 11 on the Horizon?
This developer has demonstrated that getting Windows 11 on a mobile device is no impossible feat, and there is proof that Microsoft has its own plans to do the same. As such, it doesn't seem too far-fetched to predict that official Windows 11 mobile devices are in the works.
